Abdominoplasty
Also referred to as a "tummy tuck", abdominoplasty is a
procedure that minimizes the abdominal area. In abdominoplasty, the
surgeon makes a long incision from one side of the hipbone to the
other. Excess fat and skin are surgically removed from the middle
and lower abdomen and the muscles of the abdomen wall are tightened.
ABMS
The ABMS or American Board of Medical Specialties is the umbrella
organization under which the 24 certifying medical boards function
in the United States. ABMS's main purpose is to coordinate information
regarding medical specialties and certification in medicine, and to
disseminate such information to the public, government and the medical
profession.
Adipocytes

Alpha Hydroxy Acids
Alpha hydroxy acids are derived from foods, such as fruits and milk,
and are thought to enhance the texture of skin by removing layers
of dead cells and encouraging cell regeneration. Cosmetics that contain
alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) have become widely used in recent years
despite many unanswered questions about their safety.

Anesthesia
Anesthesia is the lack of a normal sensation brought on by an anesthetic
drug. With local anesthesia, the patient will usually be lightly sedated,
and the target portion of the body and the surrounding area will be
numbed; the patient will be awake during the surgery, but relaxed
and insensitive to pain. With general anesthesia, the patient will
sleep through the operation.
Anonaly
An anomaly is a health problem or feature not normally present in
a healthy individual; a deviation from the normal.
Apert Syndrome
Apert syndrome is a craniofacial abnormality characterized by an abnormal
head shape, small upper jaw, and fusion of the fingers and toes.
Areola
The areola is the dark area of skin that surrounds the nipple of the
breast.
Arm Lift
Arm lift or brachioplasty is a procedure also known as "arm tightening"
to eliminate excess skin from the upper arm. This condition can occur
as a result of age or significant weight loss. Although the arm contour
is greatly improved, this procedure leaves a permanent and noticeable
scar. The scarring is a significant factor when considering this procedure.
Asymmetry
Asymmetry means lacking symmetry; parts of the body are unequal in
shape or size.

Autologous Tissue Breast
Reconstruction
Autologous tissue breast reconstruction involves the use of the patient's
own tissues to reconstruct a new breast mound. The common technique
is the TRAM (transverse rectus abdominous muscle) flap. A TRAM flap
involves removing an area of fat, skin, and muscle from the abdomen
and stitching it in place to the mastectomy wound.
