Male Breast Reduction
Male breast reduction is the procedure used to correct the gynecomastia
condition. Gynecomastia is a condition in which the male's breast
tissue enlarges. Gynecomastia literally means "woman breast".
The increase in tissue usually occurs at times when the male is having
hormonal changes, such as during infancy, adolescence, and old age.
Mentoplasty (Surgery
of the Chin)
Chin augmentation surgery, or mentoplasty, is offered to correct a
receding or "weak" chin in an effort to bring more balance
to the profile. Implants are used to provide greater prominence. Chin
augmentation is often accompanied by rhinoplasty surgery (nose reshaping).
To augment the chin, the plastic surgeon begins by making an incision
either in the natural crease line just under the chin or inside the
mouth (where gum and lower lip meet). Through gently stretching this
tissue, the plastic surgeon creates a space where an implant can be
inserted. Implants are made of synthetic materials feeling much like
natural tissue normally found in the chin, and are available in a
wide variety of sizes and shapes allowing custom fitting to the configurations
of the patient's face. After implantation, the surgeon uses fine sutures
to close the incision. When the incision is inside the mouth, no scarring
is visible. If the incision is under the chin, the scar is usually
imperceptible.
In chin reduction
surgery, incisions are made either in the mouth or under the chin.
The surgeon sculpts the bone to a more appealing size. For orthognathic
surgery, the surgeon will make an incision inside the mouth and reposition
the facial bones. The procedure, depending on the extent of the work,
takes from an hour or less to as long as three hours.
Micropigmentation
Micropigmentation (sometimes referred to as "permanent make-up")
is a technique in which tiny metabolically inert pigment granules
are implanted below the skin (epidermis) for cosmetic and/or corrective
enhancement. This procedure has developed from the ancient Asian beautification
practice which has now gained popularity around the world. Micropigmentation
is used to enhance facial features such as the eyebrows, lashes and
lips; to improve conditions like scarring and vitiligo (uneven pigmentation);
or to reconstruct the nipple/areola breast area.
